One vote

Saturday, April 1, 2023

The municipal election will be held this upcoming Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

I encourage all to head to the polls.

Voting is one of the most important rights and duty you and I have as American citizens.

I find no greater satisfaction than going into the voting booth and exercising my right to choose those who I think will best serve us.

Much of the world doesn’t share this right.

They live under oppressive governments who choose their leaders.

Hundreds of thousands of our fellow American citizens serving in the Armed Forces have given their lives to preserve our freedom and rights.

When I cast my vote, they’re on my mind.

I’m thankful for them.

It is our duty to vote.

Our Democracy and our voice depend on it.

There has always been a lot of talk about the importance of one vote.

Can one vote change anything?

Yes, it can.

During the Civil War and World War I hostilities were already underway when servicemen were drafted.

In 1940 Congress passed a one-year military draft during peacetime.

Then Congress faced another vote, this time to extend the peacetime draft to two and half years. The debate in Congress was intense, but ultimately, the draft was extended, by one vote.

One vote.

So, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, America had more than one million men trained, and at least partially ready, for the war that came.

All because of one vote.

One vote.

Your vote counts.

See you out there.
