Don't forget our seniors

Saturday, December 24, 2022

With my mother being the youngest of eight, I’ve spent a lot of time in nursing homes and assisted facilities.

I’ve seen the wonderful programs and events the activity directors implement.

I’ve watched the tireless dedication of volunteers who give of their time to spend part of their day with the elderly.

I’ve also seen the loneliness some of those elderly deal with.

Our seniors are a precious commodity.

Even our Lord recognized their importance and placed many passages in the Bible pertaining to seniors.

Leviticus 19:32 states, “You shall stand up before the gray and honor the face of an old man.”

Volunteers are wonderful, but they can’t take the place of a son or granddaughter walking down the hallway for a visit.

Our senior friends and relatives need to see us, especially during the holiday time.

It lets them know we care.

It brings back memories.

Not just for them, but the visitor as well.

Look in the face of your aging parent long enough and you’ll see them.

You’ll see the Christmas of your youth. Decorating the tree, getting that favorite toy, and the warm hugs following.

I cherish those trips down memory lane.

They will, too.

Go visit your seniors.

If your elderly family members have passed, volunteer, and bring joy to an elderly community member.

When we reach that age, and look back, we’ll realize, life is all about relationships.

Don’t miss an opportunity to have an in person and close up relationship with your seniors.

After all, someday, memory lane visits, are all we’ll have left.

Just a friendly reminder for all of us.

See you out there.
