Farmers

Saturday, August 5, 2023

These past couple of weeks I’ve been around a lot of farmers.

Congrats once again to the Jackson family of Senath for being named the Dunklin County Farm Family of the Year.

Daniel and Megan Jackson, along with their daughters, Sawyer and Carlee, are a fine family and will represent this noble profession well.

I also attended the Farm Bureau’s Annual meeting this week and as always met some wonderful individuals and heard much praise for farmers.

I’ve had lots of farmers in my family.

Through the years I’ve been witness to the hard work they do.

I’ve known a lot of old farmers, as well. Here’s a little something I’ve kept in my office at home.

I like to read it from time to time and I’ll share it with you now.

Advice from an old farmer:

Keep skunks, bankers, and lawyers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around a stump.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not...yelled.

Meanness don’t just happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies. It messes with their heads.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

Every path has a few puddles.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Don’t judge folks by their relatives .

Always drink upstream from the heard.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

Leave the rest to God.

Amen.

Hope you enjoy.

See you out there.
