Thoughts

Miracle of miracles, Kennett has a budget and it’s in the black!

Is it really a modern day miracle?

No, it’s a lot of hard work and long nights.

Thanks to the council, the mayor, and committee members that worked those long hours.

A deep expression of gratitude to all.

Good job, indeed.

This week I attended a lunch meal for area national guard units.

This event was held at the American Legion and another big thank you to all our servicemen and women.

Where would we be without you?

Aside from thoughts of gratitude I’m also troubled.

My point of concern is with the Senath Nursing Home.

This week I have heard from many area citizens regarding alleged incidents at the facility.

The latest being the death of a twenty-six year old patient.

The toxicology report is still pending before we can discover what happened to her.

According to the Senath police chief there were 17 calls to the nursing home in the past month.

Phone calls have went unanswered and the department has even been hung up on at times.

I believe this matter should be looked into and I look forward to having a conversation with their administrator.

I have to be hopeful that a solution can be found.

I am in total support of caring for those that struggle with mental illness and I know firsthand the challenges of working in such facilities.

I worked in the behavioral health field for sixteen years and am well aware of the difficulties faced every day by staff.

However, it seems these issues have not been properly addressed in spite of site visits from the State.

Surely the State would want to support and rectify these alleged incidences, including the unfortunate murder of a resident by another resident last July.

No one involved with the Senath Nursing Home would turn a blind eye to these matters, would they?

They must be working on this, don’t you think?

Multiples calls involving the police can’t be the norm, can it?

The citizens of Senath have stated they want some answers. They’ve reached out for help.

Let’s hope they don’t get a busy signal.

See you out there.
