Sacrifice

There are so many different ways to sacrifice and so many areas of our lives that we do make sacrifices.

As parents we make many sacrifices for our children.

These can include careers. Many women put their professional lives on hold to raise a family and in this day and age fathers do this as well.

Many parents also take up jobs that allow them to spend more time with their children.

We also sacrifice the type of car we drive for our kids.

No more sporty models, it’s now SUV’s or back in the day the station wagon with the wood panel on the side.

Vacation destinations are also sacrificed.

How about food?

Finding kid-friendly restaurants now.

No more romantic steak houses, it’s Denny’s and McDonald’s play-lands from here on out.

Let’s not forget money.

All that money.

It’s a lifetime of handing money over to the little darlings, from diapers to college.

I remember when my girls reached a certain age and the latest doll wouldn’t cut it. They wanted an outfit.

The whole outfit, not just a pair of jeans, but the whole outfit...with accessories.

Then there’s the sacrifice of time.

The happy couple are now mom and dad.

It’s all about the baby.

No more relaxing after a hard day at work because the baby wants to play.

Forget about “me time”. In fact, that’s gone forever because just when you think you’re free of them and you’re planning for peace and quiet and adult restaurants , they go forth and multiply!

Here come the grandkids and the whole mess starts all over again.

Actually, I’m just kidding.

I wouldn’t trade one, hectic, exhausting, billfold draining minute that I’ve spent with my kids.

Sacrifice is what we do for those we love, and I love my kids, Michelle, Stephanie, Kyle and Samantha.

This weekend, let’s think about the one who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Christ.

He made the greatest sacrifice of all on the cross.

This Easter as we’re watching our kids and grandkids hide Easter eggs and eat jelly beans, let’s reflect on that wonderful act of love and sacrifice.

See you out there.
