Max Ray Moore

Mr. Max Ray Moore passed away peacefully from this life Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was born April 28, 1928 to the late HA (Harve) Moore and Beulah (Hardin) Moore in Leapwood, Tennessee. He married the love of his life, Margaret Moore on June 4, 1950 in Hornersville, Mo. She preceded him in death.

Max Ray was a member of the Hornersville First Baptist Church and served four years in the United States Air Force.

Max Ray and his parents moved to Hornersville in 1937 when he was nine years old to pursue a career in farming, which ended up lasting a lifetime. He was very involved in the community as well as the Missouri Ag community. He served as president for the Cotton Producers of Missouri as well as one of the “founding fathers,” president and founding member of the Hornersville Farmers & Merchants Club, president of the Senath-Hornersville School Board, and president of Dunklin County Drainage District #1. He also served on the Boll Weevil Eradication Committee Board, FSA Board, Missouri Farm Bureau, Scholarship Alumni, and Delta Research Center Advisory Board.

Max Ray was also a member of the Hornersville Masonic Lodge and Hornersville American Legion.

If you knew Max Ray, you quickly knew that he had a love for cotton farming and his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandad, and great-grandad.

In addition to his parents and wife, Max Ray was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marye Nell Moore and Fay Marie Moore.

Max Ray is survived by two sons, Marty (Dora) Moore of Hornersville, Mo., and Mark (Mary Jean) Moore of Kennett; three grandchildren, Randi Moore of Kennett, Andrew Moore of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Ryan (Brittney) Moore of Hornersville. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Reese and Maddax Moore of Hornersville, Eason Allgood of Kennett, and Richa Moore of Cape Girardeau.

Visitation for Max Ray will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Hornersville First Baptist Church, with the funeral service immediately following. The Rev. Paul Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Terry Whitlock, Mark Cotter, Richard Cotter, and Mike Cotter, Scott Ford and Jose Marroquin. Honorary Pallbearers are “The Sunshine Cafe Breakfast Crew.”
