Classic Slang

Saturday, September 17, 2022

I don’t like to cuss, but sometimes, like Huckleberry Finn, you’ve just got to go off somewhere and let a few fly.

There are situations we go through that just deserve a good cussing or putdown.

Here are few classic insults that aren’t used anymore that I wish would return in popularity. I’ve followed these with the original definition pulled from old dictionaries.

Thank goodness for the internet.

They’re clever, descriptive, and quite amusing.

Let’s get started.

All Hat and No Cattle.

Can’t you just hear John Wayne saying this?

Definition: An empty boaster; a man who is all talk and no action.

Cad. I love this one. It means a mean fellow; a man trying to worm something out of another, either money or information.

I may start using this immediately.

Nincompoop. I think we all can figure this one out. If not you might just be one.

Scamp. Another favorite. Definition: A rascal. Upon reflection, I may very well be a scamp.

Skinflint.

A miser. Yes, sir. I know a few of few of them.

Aren’t these better than a string of expletives?

All are worthy of a revival.

I hope you enjoyed these and will continue to read this column written by a Gollumpus Poltroon.

Definition: Large clumsy fellow who is an utter coward.

Amen brother.

See you out there.
