The Flag: Love it or Hate it

Saturday, September 3, 2022

If you’ve read my columns through the years you’ll know that I’m patriotic.

I love my country.

I love the people that fought for this country.

I also love our flag.

I was reading an article this week where the author stated the American flag disgusted him. As I got deeper into the article it was plain he also hated America.

It got me to wondering if citizens from other countries had the same level of hatred for their country as quite a few Americans seem to have for ours.

The word, hate, is not an exaggeration because that’s exactly what this writer expressed.

I found quite a few countries that hate their government.

Bosnia, Bulgaria, and Moldova to name a few.

I found lots of examples of folks hating their leaders.

But to actually hate your country?

Not so many.

It puzzles me. It bothers me. It makes me sad.

I love my country.

I will continue to love my country.

I get upset with my government.

I grow tired of all the rhetoric.

But, I love that flag. Red, white, and blue. Old Glory.

A portion of our nation’s people seem to hate our country and feel disgust towards our flag.

Not everybody feels that way.

In fact, a huge number of people who don’t live here, love the United States of America, our flag, and what we represent.

Don’t believe me?

Just look at our border.

See you out there.
