Bound and Delivered

Saturday, November 13, 2021

As of this writing (approaching mid-November), there are two more weeks left in the 2021 Church Year. November 28 begins the first day of the New Church Year, also the first Sunday of Advent, the four weeks preparatory season before Christmas. For the two weeks between All Saints Day (always November 1) and Advent, the Lectionary Readings (Scripture schedule) focus on the End Times or Jesus’ return. The books of Daniel and Revelation are often selected and most or some of both books deal with the times of their contemporaries. Daniel 12:1-3 tells of the archangel Michael protecting God’s chosen people after “a time of distress,” a time which lasted 400 years between the OT and the advent of Christ. Much of what Daniel predicted came true before God became Flesh in Christ, but Chapters 7 and 12 deal with the end of this earth at Jesus’ return. Jesus quoted Daniel who predicted the desecration of the temple. (Daniel 11:31; Matthew 24:15) The first five chapters of the Book of Revelation present the Lamb (and the Son) enthroned and worshipped as the Passover/Atonement sacrifice. Chapters 6-21 are scenes of the End Times.
