Our Good Hope

After Jesus heard of Herod’s killing of John the Baptist, our Lord withdrew “to a desolate place by Himself”. We see that the crowds had followed Him and that the Lord had “great compassion” for them. Much of the crowd was following Him not as the Savior from sins, but for His power to heal and make right their messy and painful temporal (earthly) lives. Despite both Matthew and the other disciples’ description of the place as “desolate” and using that to justify leaving the crowd, Jesus directs His disciples to feed them. (Matthew 14:13-21)
