Restoring Us

My personal favorite movie of all time is the 1956 production of “The Ten Commandments”. On a recent Saturday night, I watched two scenes from that movie on YouTube. The first scene was of the eve of the Passover, where John Derek, playing the role of Joshua is painting lamb’s blood on the threshold doorway of the home of Jewish turncoat Dathan, played by Edward G. Robinson. The scene changes to the sky, where a cloud in the shape of a twisted arm with a long-fingered hand begins to descend upon the earth, bringing death to the first born of Egypt. The next scene is inside the home of Moses’ birth mother, Yosha-bel, with her is gathered her sons, including Moses, and her daughter Miriam. Also present was the Egyptian woman who raised Moses. They are inside, protected from the disaster which begins outside, where the first-born Egyptians are dying. The next scene is the morning after which displays a joyous people of the New Covenant who are leaving Egypt, loaded with great wealth of gold and possessions as they head for the promised land, assured to them by Yahweh, God Himself.
