One of the most well-known memoirs is Mark Twain’s Life on the Mississippi. In this recount of his days on the Mississippi River, Twain introduces the world to Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. He also rambles on with some terrific observations and good stories. Yet, the description and personification of the Mississippi River is most memorable. Twain relates the evolution of commerce on the river as well and the importance of a steamboat docking for a town. Today, many of these points of trade are booming cities. In many ways, this book set a tone for future memoirs with the stories, humor, and significance.
