If you’re a frequent reader of my column you’re aware that I’m a big advocate for community involvement.

I continue to hear a lot of moaning and complaining concerning conditions of our community.

I believe action is the key component to eradicate a majority of these complaints.

From the small issues to the big issues, a team effort would be beneficial.

I thought a list of suggestions on how to better your community would help.

So here are a few.

Help people paint and repair their homes.

Volunteer at a special needs event.

Visit a nursing home.

Make care kits of combs, toothbrushes, shampoo, etc. and donate to area organizations that help the poor.

Foster a child.

Donate to a food drive.

Volunteer and donate at the humane department.

Support a local politician with their campaign.

A majority of complaints I hear concern local governments.

My suggestion to attend city council meetings appears to fall on deaf ears.

To help with this issue and allow you to voice your opinion or suggestion we will be featuring a new recurring section in the DDD.

Memo to the Mayor will be your platform.

Send your ideas, concerns, or thank you’s to jdorris@dddnews.com.

We will pass these memos along to the mayors and print responses to your questions.

Remember to specify which city in Dunklin County you are from and your name.

I hope we get a good response and this will encourage you to get involved.

You can make a difference.

I look forward to hearing from you.

See you out there.
