Simple pleasures

Saturday, July 6, 2019

Over the years, more than one person has expressed an opinion on happiness.

Abraham Lincoln said on the subject, “Folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Everyone has their bad days. It’s okay to have a bad day, but no one should have a bad week.

When I’m having one of those bad days I like to remind myself of simple pleasures.

Count my blessings. The big ones and the sweet and simple ones.

Here are a few of my favorites.

Morning coffee.

Breakfast for dinner.

Greetings from my dog.

Electricity and running water.

Holidays with family.

Grandkid’s drawings.

A good book.

A nap. I appreciate these more and more.

Family traditions.

Ice cold water.

Blackberry cobbler and ice cream.

Good songs.

A good laugh and yes, at times a good cry.

Practice gratitude and make your own list of simple pleasures.

I think you’ll find that Honest Abe was right, true happiness does come from within, not from material possessions.

Do things you love. Spend time with loved ones.

Find purpose.

Imagine the best and enjoy those simple pleasures.

See you out there.
