Whole Hearted Repentance

A person who would repent of their sins should have the attitude exhibited in these verses, "O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips." (Hosea 14:1-2) The idea that a person can be a Christian and accepted by God, while at the same time living a life of sin and unfaithfulness, is growing more popular in our culture. This is a mistaken notion. What is needed is whole hearted repentance. Henry Thayer in his Greek Lexicon on page 406 defines the word "repentance" as "especially the change of mind of those who have begun to abhor their errors and misdeeds, and have determined to enter upon a better course of life, so that it embraces both a recognition of sin and sorrow for it and hearty amendment, the tokens and effects of which are good deeds..."
