Dunklin County Library summer readers recognized

Sunday, August 7, 2005

The Dunklin County Library has just finished a summer reading program for the children of the community to encourage them to read for pleasure during the summer and to retain their reading skills. This year's program "Dragons, Dreams & Daring Deeds" was a huge success. Approximately 400 children throughout the County participated in the program. Each child was required to read or have read to them at least 20 books. The Dunklin County Library had parties at each of the libraries in the county at which JoNell Minton, library director and staff members Kathy Richardson and Terrie Long grilled hot dogs for the children. Entertainment was provided by Kelly Garner of "Kelly and Company." "Queen Kelly" was on hand to play games and entertain the children. Special story times were scheduled during the months of June and July. Those who finished the program received a reading certificate signed by Missouri Secretary of State, Robin Carnahan; Missouri State Librarian, Sara Parker and the local Librarian of each branch, a reading medal and a "Goody Bag".
