Letter to the Editor

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Dear Editor,

The undersigned was elected to Congress in Southeast Missouri in 1968 as an opponent to the war in Vietnam. My argument was that the Korean and Vietnam Wars clearly demonstrated that the U. S. cannot police the world.

I oppose the Iraq and Afghan Wars. My argument is that the Korean, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghan Wars positively prove that the United States of America cannot police the world.

All indications are that Iran and Israel will soon be at war and we will be pulled into that one also. As usual I will be opposed for the reason enumerated above.

One would think that the politicians, the media and the people would learn their lesson. Perhaps not.

It is only fair to add that this writer served 3 1/2 years in the U. S., Marine Corps in the mid-late 1950's, which included the 8 month tour of a reinforced Marine battalion aboard the U. S., Navy 6th Fleet ship patrolling the Mediterranean Sea.

Respectfully yours,

Bill D. Burlison
