Joy Marie Jean passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Heritage Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born on June 5, 1915, to Jeannetta Kiersey McIntosh and John Duncan McIntosh of Braggadocio, Mo. She graduated from Deering High School, and received her Bachelors Degree from Southeast Missouri State University. During World War II, she moved to Washington DC where she served her country as a civilian in the Navy Department, working on personnel matters. Following her service in Washington, she returned to Southeast Missouri where she taught school in Dunklin and Pemiscot Counties, dedicating 33 years to the education of children in the Kennett Public Schools. She began her career as an English teacher, but over the years she taught everything from music to girl's basketball before settling into early childhood education as a sixth grade teacher at North School and later as a third grade teacher at West School.
