ARBYRD, Mo. -- The main topic of conversation here is the city's annual Spring Concert, which the council elected to host on Friday, April 11, 2008.

Mayor Lonnie Gibson, Jr. announced another concert will take place prior to the Spring concert. At 7:30 p.m., Friday Feb. 22, 2008, Nashville recording artist Ben Brand will be the featured guest for a concert established as a fundraising event for the Southland High School's F.F.A..

The line-up includes guitarist Garrett Duncan, 9; singer Julia Gibson, 9; singer Jenna Gibson, 4; singer/guitarist Kasey Kellums, and singer Mickayla Petty, 13.

In addition to the young artist, the show will feature country singers Don Osment and Bill Hurst, along with comedian/singer Lonnie Gibson, Jr.

"This is to help raise money for the Southland Future Farmers of America," Gibson said. "So I hope we have a good turn-out of family, friends, and school supporters."

The concert will be held at the Southland High School gymnasium. Admission is $6.

Other items of business included discussing the possibility of getting some of the streets paved. Gibson said he had met with Salem Township members and was pleased to announce that they would be spreading gravel on Hopper St.

"That's the road that goes out to the Petty Addition," Gibson said. "The city will have to purchase the gravel but the township will use their grader to spread it."

The council anticipates having its annual Watermelon Festival on July 11, but wants to check with neighboring towns to make sure there are no other festivals planned for that time.

The next regular scheduled meeting has been slated for 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2008.
