Luck of the Irish

Saturday, March 18, 2023

I’m Irish.

I have a little Dutch in there as well.

I’m also superstitious.

Very superstitious.

Looking into my Irish heritage I believe it’s genetic.

We Irish are a lot of things.

We love to sing. We love our food. Every once in awhile we like to have a little brawl, usually among family and friends.

It seems like there’s one more thing...oh, yes, the Irish like a wee drink now and then.

The definition of now and then varies among us.

We’re also quite superstitious.

Here a few that I’m aware of:

Birds.

If a robin flies into your house, someone will die. That’s kept me up at night before.

If you kill a robin you will lead a life of misery.

Be nice to robins.

Shoes.

New shoes on the table is loaded with bad luck.

It can bring about death, job loss, or twenty-four hours of bad luck.

Ears.

Everyone is familiar with the phrase “my ears are burning,” but did you know when your left ear is burning someone is saying nice things about you.

When you right ear is burning someone is talking bad things about you.

Funerals.

If it rains on the day of the funeral that’s good luck.

The Irish believe that means the deceased went straight to heaven.

There are so many.

I’d like to hear some of your superstitions.

That’s all for now, I’m off to feed the robins and finish up my corned beef and cabbage.

See you out there.
