Community Involvement

Saturday, March 4, 2023

It’s been refreshing, to say the least, to see council and committee meetings being well attended by the public.

Interest in our community seems to be on the rise, a trend I hope continues.

I also hope to see transparency with our local government become the rule, not the exception.

When information is shared, possibilities emerge.

Sound ideas come forth.

It sure beats circling the wagons and clamping down on the issues at hand.

Newton’s Third Law of Motion states, and I paraphrase, for every act there is an opposite and equal reaction.

Get the information to the public and you’ll get a reaction.

A good example would be the recent trash issue.

Now we’ve returned to the issue of bringing a hospital back to Kennett.

Some good points were made at Tuesday’s Committee meeting.

Important questions were asked.

Let’s build on that and not lose momentum by putting in our heads in the sand.

Just like our infrastructure problem, the lack of a hospital and the issues that arise from that aren’t going away.

We can’t continue to ignore the issues.

We as a community understand that these solutions will take time.

Some will take quite a lot of time, but we have to start the process.

I’m encouraged by some of the new voices that are popping up at our meetings.

I look forward to the April election and some of the changes that will occur following the vote.

Let’s move forward and stop living in the land of what was.

Let’s take that leap together and see what is to come.

As always, the ball is in our court.

See you out there.
