Social Media Swindlers

Saturday, October 1, 2022

I am not a big fan of social media.

I’ll admit it’s a good source for sharing family photos or favorite recipes, but too many people rely on these sites for important information.

A recent survey of 3,000 social media users by the group CouponBirds revealed the extent to which social media influences people’s financial decisions.

According to the survey 275,000 Missourians admit to taking financial advice from social media sites.

Young viewers are particularly vulnerable to consuming potentially harmful information about investing.

The financial topics being accessed include taxes, college loans, credit scores and cards, retirement investing and even options trading.

Dangerous territory for misinformation folks.

I suggest you fact check anything on Facebook, TikTok, etc., before acting on it.

It is vitally important to conduct your own research before buying into any of these sites.

In other words, do not automatically believe everything you read on social media.

If you insist on doing so, and gambling with your hard-earned money, that’s your decision.

As for me, I’ll be diligent with my financial interests and shy away from social media influencers.

For those of you that don’t mind a risk, you could always invest in a local hospital.

See you out there.
