Even though we are far from being united, America is celebrating a birthday, and that’s cause for a celebration.

Our nation is 245 years old.

Happy Birthday America.

These days we Americans don’t agree on much, but there are still some things I hope we can all love about our country.

Our National Parks for one.

Everyone should try and visit one of our nation’s parks and see the beauty of nature up close and personal.

Baseball.

It’s still cries out America with a crack of a bat.

Speaking of baseball, how about hot dogs?

We can argue what to put on them but still nothing beats a hot dog at the ballpark.

Our music, blues, jazz, and of course we gave birth to rock and roll.

So many things I could list that symbolize America even in these troublesome times.

But really, what symbolizes America, perhaps even more than our majestic bald eagle, or our beloved flag, is an idea.

A spirit.

Condoleeza Rice stated, “The essence of America, that which really unites, is not ethnicity, or nationality or religion. It is an idea, and what an idea it is-that you can come from humble circumstances and do great things.”

Amen.

The American dream.

That’s what continues to entice multitudes of people to come to this nation.

The endless opportunity for prosperity and success.

Some may argue, but I see examples of the American Dream being fulfilled all around me.

From a young man in Senath, who through hard work and dedication, will be attending West Point this year, to the small farmer who continues to work his family’s land and provide.

To me we are still the greatest nation in the world.

I still love my country, flawed as it may be at times.

God bless America.

See you out there.
