History of the Kennett Post Office begins with the Lions Club

Does the beauty and history that surrounds you every day ever surprise you? During a November trip to Kennett, I observed the majestic of marble, brick and granite of the post office in the early light of a crisp winter morning. The picture needed a story to go with it. What was the history of the Kennett Post Office on North Main Street? A quick google search, then a deeper dig online yielded nothing. Facebook friends suggested who to ask and where to look but, no one had a definite answer. The postal staff supplied a 1937 Democrat article that described the new building. There were missing details. With a starting point, I headed to the Dunklin County Library to enjoy an afternoon with microfilm and local expert Tony Byrd.
