Tuesday, January 21, 2020

January 16, 2020, the Risco Rural Independent Club met in the Gathering Room of the Cotton Pickin’ Café. Frankie Knapp was hostess. The room was decorated in natural winter décor of holly berries and greenery on iridescent tablecloths. The members enjoyed ham/dill appetizers, 2x4 soup or chili, chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwiches, peach cobbler, and pineapple cake. Thirteen members in attendance were Pauline Allen, Deema Berry, Nancy Carlisle, Rhonda Duckworth, Sondra Lacewell, Shirley Love, Frankie Knapp, Bernice Landers, Martha Matlock, Debbie Patterson, Marilynn Smelser, Judy Smith, and Debbie White. Following the meal, Frankie opened the business meeting by leading in the Lord’s Prayer. Pauline brought the Thought for the Day, “Unfailing Love”, by James Banks, Our Daily Bread. It said, “On a recent airline flight the landing was a little rough, jostling us left and right down the runway. Some of the passengers were visibly nervous, but the tension broke when two little girls sitting behind me cheered, ‘Yeah! Let’s do that again!’ Children are open to new adventures and see life with humble, wide-eyed wonder. Perhaps this is part of what Jesus had in mind when He said that we have to ‘receive the kingdom of God like a little child’ (Mark 10:15)”. December minutes and treasurer’s report were both approved by majority vote. Dues of $20 were collected from members for the 2020 year. A planning session followed during which members volunteered to hostess a particular month and plan the program for that month. The club has open membership to anyone with a heart for community service and fellowship.
