All about Jesus

Saturday, January 18, 2020

Perhaps the most common occurrence recorded in the Holy Scripture which is read on the Day of the Epiphany every year (January 6) is the Baptism of our Lord. When Jesus approached the Jordan River, the last prophet of the Holy Bible, John the Baptist was horrified, considering himself to be unworthy to baptize the long-promised Messiah. He said to Jesus, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Jesus also fulfilled a prophecy that John had made just before his baptism of Jesus. To those whom he had baptized earlier, John said—of Jesus, “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” (Matthew 3:11-12)
