Needy

Recently one evening with some time to spare and needing some rest, I watched a series of television shows about gangsters of the past, some going back a hundred years ago—the 19 teens—until some more recent, such as in the 1990s. Two commonalities all of these crime figures had in common were that they were ruthless, and they were dead. To explain their brutality, unbelievers may contend that it was likely an unrequited love they had lost, or maybe an abusive parent, or they grew up in poverty. But the truth is that many grow up in poverty yet don’t become thieves, and many people have been abused in their youths, but don’t kill other people. We Christians know what’s going on. It’s our sin nature, which can be well described as emptiness inside of every one of us, a gigantic emotional hole in hearts, and an ache which drives us to seek other things to fill us. The cause or origins of our sin nature goes back to our original ancestors—Eve and Adam—who rebelled against God, losing the authority God gave them over the earth, and the glory of being a child of God. You fellow believers know as well as I that you and I are the neediest people you and I know.
