Wisdom knocking

Saturday, October 20, 2018

In a recent Sunday afternoon neighborhood prayer canvas, the church’s youth and I knocked the doors of some forty-three houses. Considering that at least a third of the residents were not home or opted not to answer the door, we felt blessed to have been trusted by eleven of the residents who requested prayers from us strangers as we promised to do when the youth and I returned to the church later that day. Their problems are like ours—illnesses, faith issues, financial struggles—the results of sin in the world since the fall of Man in Eden. And we were blessed to be invited to pray for them, especially in our current age of hostility to the Christ. (John 15:18-25) And the youth learn the power of the Word of God and prayer, not only from the gracious people at home, but from the rare but negative experiences they encounter. Jesus Christ is all powerful. He’s the reason strangers will share with us, and the cause of fear among those who hate the Christ.
