Delta Fair Parade entries deadline set for Sept. 21

Saturday, September 8, 2018

The 2018 Delta Fair Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25. Line-up will begin at 4:30 p.m. All organizations, commercial firms, civic groups, churches, school groups etc., are encouraged to enter floats in the parade. Float cash prizes: 1st place $1,000, 2nd place $600, 3rd place $450, 4th place $350, and 5th place $250. Floats will be judged by an independent party separate from the Delta Fair Board and Kennett Chamber. Float judges will be staged at various locations along the parade route. It is very important that parade entries should not stop at any point along the route.

School Band Buses: follow North Bypass/Homecrest until you reach the intersection at North Street. Turn left onto North Street, then right onto Walter Street, to drop off students at the Kennett High School Gymnasium. Band students can depart buses in the gym parking lot and walk to the grassy area in front of the high school. Band buses should exit using Walter Street and then North Bypass to go to the end of the parade route. Buses have permission to park at SEMO University, if they wish. Instructors and Drivers: please coordinate pick up location with your students. Each band that participates in the parade will be admitted to the 2018 Delta Fair that night (Tuesday, Sept. 25), at no charge. We ask that bands do not perform routines that slow the progress of the parade. Bands will not be judged.

Safety Information: Entries with multiple walkers or riders, please assemble your group (especially those including children) at an alternate location and come to the staging area as one unit to avoid congestion in the crowded areas. Individual drop offs will not be permitted. We ask parade participants to throw candy carefully toward the ground and not into the crowd. We also ask that anyone in the crowd not run into the street to retrieve the candy thrown. The Kennett Police Department will begin posting barricades along the parade route and lineup area at 4:15 p.m. Complete traffic shutdown of the parade route will occur at 5:00 p.m.

Pageant winner entries: Delta Fair Pageant Royalty will ride on a float sponsored by the Delta Fair Board. This float will not be eligible to win prize money. Participants on the float will be limited to Queens only ages 5 years and older, no alternates. Other pageant Queens should register for the parade individually and will abide by the same rules as the Delta Fair Pageant: queens only ages 5 years and older.

Entries depicting horror attractions or deemed inappropriate may not be permitted. Parade officials will be granted final discretion and may eliminate entries leading up to parade start. If you have questions about your entry’s qualifications, please contact the Kennett Chamber of Commerce.

Parade entries should be entered with the Kennett Chamber of Commerce no later than 1 p.m. on Friday, September 21. Non-registered entries will not be allowed on parade day. Parade line-up information will be available from the Chamber office beginning Monday, September 24 at 9 a.m. To register, complete the Online Parade Registration at www.kennettmo.com. The Chamber can be contacted by email info@kennettmo.com or phone at (573) 888-5828.
