David Welton Huggins, a beloved Arbyrdian passed away March 4, 2018 at his residence at the age of 94 years. Known to his students as “Mr. Huggins” and to his local friends and family as Welton. He was born to Mabel and George Huggins on October 14, 1923 in Bucoda, Missouri. He graduated from Arbyrd High School and entered the military in 1943 and was discharged in Feb. 1946 serving during World War II in the Phillippines. He had a very distinguished military career being a Staff Sergeant Med Tech serving with the 73rd Field Hospital and was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, entitled to wear the Victory Phillippines Liberation Medal, 2 Overseas Bars and the Pacific American Theatre Ribbon. Welton wore many hats, so to speak, and they included being a soldier, a farmer, a math teacher, a grocery store owner, a deacon and a Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Arbyrd for over 60 years.
