Chester Folkes, Sr.

Chester Linwood Folkes, Sr., of Kennett, son of the late Velmar Linn Folkes and Mably (Taylor) Folkes, was born July 28, 1928 in Monette, Ark., and departed this life March 15, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Chester married Carrel Green March 20, 1948 in Piggott. They were together just short of 69 years.

Survivors include his wife, Carrel Folkes of Kennett; two sons, Perry Mark Folkes and Ann of Memphis; Eric Folkes and Sheri of Howe, Texas; grandchildren Monica and Stacy Smith, Jeremy Folkes, Christina Folkes, Nikki Jenkins, Zachary Folkes, Meagen Folkes; great-grandchildren, Morgan Folkes, John and Chloe Jenkins, Julian, Elliott and Piper Smith; two brothers, Carl Folkes of Kennett, Don Folkes of Paragould; three sisters, Ruby Holloway of Biloxi, Miss.; Faye Garcia of Arnold, Mo., Janet Counts and Jim of Kennett; brother-in-law, Ernie Phflueger; other relatives and many friends.

Chester was preceded in death by one son, Chester “Butch” Folkes; one brother, Clyde Folkes; and four sisters; Jewell Robertson, Billy Phflueger, June Jones and Jean Matheny.

Chester was a member of Slicer Street Church of Christ.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Slicer Street Church of Christ in Kennett, with Mr. Spencer Furby officiating. Burial follows in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Zach Folkes, Jeremy Folkes, Donnie Folkes, Trey Walls, Tim Blakenship, and Warren Matheny.

Honorary pallbearers are: Larry Matheny, Jerry Hall, Russ Burcham, Floyd Coffer, Frank Stewart, Harold Perkins, Jim Brice, Nick Moody, John Donaldson and Bill Grogan; Elders Rick Gore, Leonard Boggs, Britt Burcham and Jeff Bridges.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
