Are You In or Out of Christ?

My Mom would often make my brothers and me choose to stay inside the house or to remain outside instead of running in and out all afternoon. Inside was television and refreshments. Outside was loud games and exploration of the woods. We had to choose to be in or out since the doors would be locked to enforce each boy's decision. Maybe your mother had a similar practice.

Every person must decide if they will be in Christ or remain out of Christ. To remain out of Christ is to be lost. (Ephesians 2:12) Consider Paul's statement in Ephesians 1:3. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." If all spiritual blessings are in Christ, then there are no spiritual blessings out of Christ. True, there are physical blessings that God gives to sinners and saints alike to demonstrate His goodness. (Matthew 5:45; Romans 2:4) But the spiritual blessings of Christ are promised to those who are in Christ! The good news of the gospel is that everyone can choose to be in Christ. (Matthew 11:28-30) Sadly, many choose to remain out of Christ. (Matthew 23:37; 7:13) Consider the following spiritual blessings in Christ.

If you are in Christ, you are a new creature. "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17) This verse shows that being "in Christ" is a spiritual location. Do you want to start your life over again? This is impossible physically, but spiritually is possible, if you are in Christ!

Redemption and forgiveness of sins are blessings that can only be enjoyed when a person is in Christ. Paul, speaking of Christ says, "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace." (Ephesians 1:7)

The gift of salvation is obtained in Christ. Paul said, "Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." (2 Timothy 2:10) Where is salvation obtained? In Christ! Are YOU in Christ?

Eternal life is found in God's Son. "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." (1 John 5:11-12)

Let me answer the question that you are asking, "How does a person get into Christ?" The Bible answer is that we are baptized into Christ. "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:27) Some teach in error that the sinner can be saved by faith only. If this were true, one would already be in Christ before he was ever baptized. Paul says that baptism is "into Christ".

Look at this scripture from Romans. "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into his death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:3-4) Paul plainly says that they were baptized into Christ. Are YOU in Christ?
