Heavy lifting at TRRMC
How do three men move a 36,000 pound MRI machine? Very carefully and very slowly. Yesterday, Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center (TRRMC) began the process of moving its old MRI machine, housed at the Kennett Orthopaedic Center, at 402 Recovery Road. A lot of physical work and planning went into moving the machine, because of its immense size and strong magnetic pull. The machine was located on the north side of the building. Before it could be loaded out of the building, some windows and framing had to be removed. A crane was also brought in to lift the machine onto a transport truck. The task took most of the day, as the machine was slowly maneuvered, on four wheeled dollies, along aluminum skids and across several wood strips. At approximately 4:15 p.m., the movers, from Bruce Martin Construction, Inc., in Portageville, were finally able to raise the MRI machine onto the crane's giant hook, and hoist it into the air. The machine is now on its way to a second life in India. TRRMC is in the process of expanding its MRI facility, in order to receive a new machine that will be twice as big and twice as powerful.
