It's doubtful that Jesus was really born on December 25, but since the universal Church recognizes that date, February 2 is the festival of The Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Jesus. Forty days after a woman gave birth to a boy, she was to come to the temple and offer a sacrifice of a lamb and a turtledove or a pigeon (or two turtledoves or pigeons). The priest sacrificed the animals and declared the Virgin Mary "clean" before the Lord (Leviticus 12) And since Jesus was born a male, He was to be presented to the Lord, these words were told to Him, "...And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth. For with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt. You shall keep this statute at its appointed time from year to year." (Exodus 13:9-10)
