MALDEN, Mo. - The second-seeded South Pemiscot Bulldogs outscored the fourth-seeded Senath-Hornersville Lions 8-2 in the final minute of regulation to secure a 66-60 victory in the junior varsity Bootheel Conference basketball title game Friday night.
South Pemiscot tallied six of its final eight points from the free-throw-line.
"We've been struggling all year with free throws," South Pemiscot coach Alandis Boyd said. "Tonight guys concentrated and knocked them down in a big game. For a junior varsity team this was like playing in a district championship and they wanted the title tonight.
"We knew it was going to be a battle and we expected it to be close," Boyd added. "We battled through the defenses they applied early and pulled it off in the fourth quarter."
Four players tallied more than 10 points for South Pemiscot. Glen Jackson calculated a team-high 18 points. Jarvis Johnson scored 17 points and Contrell Johnson tallied 14 points. Ty Dunn added 12 more.
Austin Autry tallied a team-high 23 points for Senath-Hornersville before fouling out. Kyle Moore scored 11 points for the Lions.
South Pemiscot improves its record to 15-4 with the conference championship win.
"It's been a great season for us," Boy said. "We've lost a few games we should have won. But overall we've been very pleased with our guys. They've been playing hard all year for us."
