Hayti man seriously injured in Wednesday night crash

PEMISCOT Co., Mo., ---- A Hayti man was seriously injured as a result of a crash that occurred on Interstate 155, seven miles east of Caruthersville, Mo, last night.

According to Trooper C. A. Cook, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Nicholas L. Womble, 22 of Hayti was traveling east in a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, when he attempted to pass another vehicle, when Womble lost control of the vehicle and struck the retaining wall of a bridge.

The vehicle then overturned and ejected Womble.

Womble was flown to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn., by helicopter, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was totaled from the crash and was towed from the scene. Womble was not reported to have been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Trooper D. Dejournett assisted Trooper Cook with the crash.
