Melvin Dean Gentry, son of the late Marshall and Edith Griffin Gentry, was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Mississippi County, Ark., and passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette, Ind., at the age of 71.

He attended Senath School and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.

Survivors include one son, Dean Gentry and wife, Nancy, of South Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Gerald Gentry and wife, Marie, of Senath, Mo.; three sisters, Lois West and husband, Frank, of Hoopeston, Ill., Faye Westerfield and husband, David, of Dublin, Ga., and Emily Gentry, of Paragould, Ark., and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Harold Gentry, and a sister, Brenda Moore.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to service time at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, at McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, at McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Dunivan officiating.

Burial with full military rites will follow in the Lulu Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Gerald Gentry, Jr., Gerald Gentry III, Robbie Shrum, Lee Gentry, David Westerfield and Matt Harris.
