Top seeds advance to semifinals of boys Bootheel Conference tournaments at Malden

MALDEN, Mo. - The varsity and junior varsity boys basketball semifinals are set at the Bootheel Conference Tournament following quarterfinal action Monday and Tuesday at Malden High School.

All of the higher seeded teams advanced to the semifinals.

No. 1 seeded Kennett will meet No. 4 seeded Portageville Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first varsity semifinal. No. 2 seeded Hayti will meet No. 3 seeded Caruthersville in the second varsity semifinal Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Kennett varsity received a first-round bye. Hayti, Caruthersville and Portageville won varsity quarterfinal games Tuesday. Hayti defeated No. 7 seeded Senath-Hornersville 69-29; Caruthersville beat No. 6 seeded South Pemiscot 84-79; and Portageville defeated No. 5 seeded Malden 69-52.

The winners of Thursday's varsity quarterfinals will meet in the finals of the single-elimination tournament Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Top-seeded Caruthersville will meet No. 4 seeded Senath-Hornersville in the first junior varsity semifinal Wednesday at 6 p.m. No. 2 seeded South Pemiscot will take on No. 3 seeded Kennett in the second junior varsity semifinal Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Caruthersville junior varsity received a first-round bye in the tournament. South Pemiscot, Kennett and Senath-Hornersville won junior varsity quarterfinal games Monday. South Pemiscot defeated No. 7 seeded Portageville 58-45; Kennett defeated No. 6 seeded Hayti 55-39; and Senath-Hornersville defeated No. 5 seeded Malden (no score available at deadline).

The winners of Wednesday's semifinal contests will play in the junior varsity final Friday at 6 p.m.
