The Kennett Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 1601 Russell Street Thursday morning.
According to Assistant Fire Chief David Horton, there were no utilities hooked up to the house and no one was living there.
Firefighters gained entrance to the house through the back since the front door was locked and a wall was built behind it.
Due to the smoke conditions, firefighters had to fight the blaze from the outside.
The fire is believed to have started in the living area and firefighters have determined that the cause is arson.
Two fire engines and one service truck was on the scene.
