The Malden High School basketball boys returned to Bloomfield on Friday, January 11 for the first time since their two-point overtime loss to the Wildcats at the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament. They were seeking revenge for that loss and got it, taking a 64-60 overtime win in the rematch.
The Green Wave grabbed the lead in the first quarter, winning it 16-15. Bloomfield cranked up their play to take the second quarter 22-17 and the lead 37-33 at the half. The 'Cats came back out after the break ready for war and took the third stanza 12-9 before Malden rallied to take the final period 13-6 and tie the game 55-55 to send it into overtime.
Malik Perkins connected on a pair of twos and two free throws to go with a two from Romello McCoy and a bonus point by Cortez Dobbins for nine points in OT. Bloomfield could only muster five points by hitting a two and connecting on three-of-eight free throws and the win, along with a taste of revenge, went to the Green Wave.
Perkins led the Wave with 23 points he recorded on ten two-pointers and by going three-for-three from the line. Dobbins and McCoy added 15 points each. Dobbins tapped six twos and three bonus shots while McCoy hit one from the stripe and seven two-pointers. Dajuan Criglar hit Malden's only three and added a pair of twos for seven points. Gunner Jones toed the line for two points put up a deuce to contribute four points.
The Green Wave men will next see action against the Portageville Bulldogs at Malden on Friday, January 18.
