Whether there is an outage planned or an issue the community need to be aware of, City Light Gas and Water officials will now be making use of the Daily Dunklin Democrat's Text Alert system to keep their customers informed.
The Text Alert system offers instant text messages that are delivered to personal cell phones for those who sign up for the service. Currently, several agencies utilize the program free of charge in a number of areas. Local schools notify parents of school closings in the event of inclement weather or other situation that may merit closings or early dismissals. Kennett Emergency Management informs area residents of severe weather. Local sports officials are signed on.
There are options for residents to receive instant messages regarding weather alerts, local sports scores, breaking news, and several others.
CLGW now offers a category called "Kennett CLGW" that will be available to all residents who have a cell phone and wish to receive messages.
Registering for the Text Alert system is a simple process. Residents should log onto dddnews.com and click on "Text Alerts" on the bar at the top of the computer screen, or log on to clgw.net and click the "Sign Up for Text Alerts" link in the left menu. A simple set of directions will have residents logged in moments and will grant them instant access to any emergency message that fire department officials may send.
The process is entirely free -- carrier charges may apply -- and readers may sign up to receive instant text messages from any number of sources. The categories are shown during the process of signing on.
