Two local residents were arrested earlier this month and charged with animal cruelty/neglect following a tip about an injured dog at their property.

According to the Kennett Police Department, on January 4, the Kennett Humane Department was dispatched to an address in the 200 block of West 5th Street in Kennett in reference to the injured dog.

Upon arrival, officers were taken to a back room of the residence and shown a dog with a severely injured back leg.

The resident advised that the dog had been injured for several days, and kept inside the residence.

According to Kennett Humane Officer Tena Petix, the back leg was turned completely backwards, and had an open wound with the bone exposed.

The dog was recovered and transported to KenMo Veterinary Clinic for care.

The two residents of the property, Shana Harmon and Tommy Hooker, were subsequently arrested on animal cruelty/neglect charges and transported to the Dunklin County Justice Center.

Kennett Police Chief James Paine would like to remind everyone that if you see an animal being neglected or abused, please report it immediately by contacting the Kennett Humane Department at (573) 888-4622.

it goes without being said that someone that has to mistreat an animal is one hell of a sorry person and a huge chicken. It takes a coward to beat on a child/elderly/animal that cannot defend themselves.

Do yourself a favor and go get some psychiatric help and work whatever inner demons you have out.

sj83 said it all. Only very sick people mistreat animals, children, the elderly and the mentally impaired. How sick they must be.
