Theresa Elizabeth Newton, 92, of Bernie, Mo., passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.
Born Jan. 29, 1920, in Clarkton, Mo., daughter of the late William Hughes Martin and Myrtice Dunlap Martin, she was a retired first grade teacher, having taught at Bernie School. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Bernie.
On March 19, 1943, in Clarkton, she married James E. Newton, who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Benjamin Heath Fears, and one brother, W.H. Martin, Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha and husband, Dr. Ronald A. Garber, of Coppell, Texas, and Gay Tanner and husband, Chris, of Campbell, Mo.; six grandchildren, Matthew Newton Garber, of New York, N.Y., Jayme and Nathan Harris, both of Campbell, Jessica Newton and James Borowy, both of San Freancisco, Calif., Sage Ann Newton Garber, of Coppell, Cortney and Seth Sherman, and Christin Tanner, all of Jackson, Mo., and four great-grandchildren, Tommy Tran, of Jackson, Jakob Ranley Haris, of Dexter, Mo., and Ella Jayne Harris and Benjamin Stryker Harris, both of Campbell.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Northside Baptist Church in Bernie with Rev. O.H. Brooks and Bro. Tim Ingle officiating.
Burial was in the Bernie Cemetery.

Landess Funeral Home of Campbell was in charge of arrangements.
