Sunday, December 30, 2012

Leslie Williams
Leslie Andre Williams, 51 of Marston, Mo., is scheduled to appear in court before Judge John C. Spielman January 4, 2013 at 9 a.m., for a hearing.

Williams was charged with one count of assault on an officer and one count of resisting arrest by fleeing, following an incident where according to the Kennett Police Department, on November 12, 2012 the 51-year-old Marston man was arrested at the Kennett Walmart on assault charges.

The arrest was in regards to a report from the Loss Prevention Officer at Walmart, who reported that the suspect, Williams had left the store with several stolen items in his possession. As officers arrived, they located the suspect in a vehicle on the parking lot. When Kennett Police officers; Joe Stewart and Loraine Burton asked the suspect to get out of the vehicle, he struck Officer Stewart in the face.

As Williams attempted to escape the officers, he and Officer Stewart fell to the pavement during a scuffle, where the officer injured his left hand. The suspect then fled behind the store on foot, where Dunklin County Deputy Sheriff, Kandace Canoy ordered him to stop.

Following a brief struggle with the Kennett Officers, Williams was subdued.

While investigating the incident, officers recovered a total of $385 worth of stolen items from Williams' vehicle.

Officer Joe Stewart received medical attention in the Emergency Room at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for at least two broken bones to his left hand.

Williams waived a formal arraignment on Nov. 27, 2012. Williams is currently being held at the Dunklin County Justice Center on a $100,000 cash only bond. A motion was made Nov. 27, to have the bond amount reduced, however Judge Spielman denied the request.

Lisa McCormick
The second individual who will appear in court is Lisa McCormick. McCormick is expected to appear in court February 27, 2013 for a Pretrial Conference at 10:30 a.m., and will then appear before the court again March 1, 2013 for a Jury Trial, scheduled for 9 a.m. Judge Robert N. Mayer will be presiding over the court dates.

McCormick was charged with a class D felony of abandonment of a corpse on September 22, 2012 after Autumn Medley, 20, of Kennett, was found dead on County Road 322, near Gibson, Mo., on September 21, 2012.

The Dunklin County Major Case Squad was activated to investigate the case. Investigating agencies include the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, Kennett Police Department, Maiden Police Department, Holcomb Police Department, and the Dunklin County Prosecutor's Office.

McCormick posted a surety bond of $25,000 on September 25. On Dec. 12, 2012, McCormick entered a plea of not guilty. The trial will take place at the Dunklin County Courthouse. Medley's death continues to be under investigation.
