Montney was arrested Tuesday, December 18, 2012, in relation to an investigation of Felony Stealing and Possession of burglary tools.
The Kennett Police Department reported a number of burglaries and thefts from the weekend prior to the arrest. Kennett Officers answered calls of stolen central heating and air units from addresses on North Vandeventer, North Everett, and North Baldwin streets.
Montney was arrested after Kennett Officers received information on the location of an individual that had been under surveillance, in reference to the thefts. Officers arrived at 607 Whitney Street, where Montney was arrested and located several stolen items, including evidence of past thefts of air conditioners, Copper wire and other items. Officers believe that the majority of the evidence is from where the suspects were 'scraping' metal from various locations to later sell to scrap yards, and recycling centers.
Montney has been charged with two counts of stealing and two counts of burglary in the second degree.
On Dec. 19, after the recommendation of doing so by the Dunklin County Prosecutor's Office, the court set Montney's bond amount at $30,000, cash only, which was later motioned for a reduction. Judge Spielman denied the motion to reduce the bond amount.
Montney waived a formal arraignment last Friday, Dec. 21.
