Hayti Mayor Bobby Watkins will appear in court for a hearing on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. Presiding over the case will be 35th Judicial Circuit Judge-elect, Robert N. Mayer, at the Dunklin County Courthouse in Kennett.

The appearance in court is in regards to an incident that occurred earlier this year where seven area residents, including four former Road and Bridge Department employees, two local businessmen, and one elected official, Watkins, were arrested for forgery and stealing. A change of venue from Pemiscot County to Dunklin County was approved in late July.

The incident was investigated by the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Division of Drug and Crime Control.

According to Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, during the three month investigation it was learned that employee's with the Road and Bridge Department and local businessmen were being paid with county funds by the Pemiscot County Commission after false invoices were submitted and approved by the commission for approximately the last three years.
