The Kennett Police Department is searching for a suspect wanted on drug charges after he fled from police on Tuesday.
According to the KPD, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, the department received information on the approximate location of a suspect wanted for previous charges of dangerous drugs.
Kennett Police Officers, along with the Bootheel Drug Task Force began searching for the suspect at the location, when the investigators spotted the suspect driving an SUV on Russell Street in Kennett.
Officers then proceeded to conduct a traffic stop, at which the suspect fled in the vehicle. As Officers pursued, the suspect got out of the moving vehicle and began to flee on foot into residential areas near Astrachan and Masterson Streets.
Although a search was made through the area, authorities reported that the suspect was not apprehended. Officers did, however, locate a large undisclosed amount of a controlled substance, believed to have been dropped, along with other personal items, by the suspect.
According to the KPD, officers are awaiting notification from the State Prosecutor's office for formal charges of possession of controlled substance and resisting arrest by fleeing.
The name of the suspect is being withheld pending the filing of these charges.
