The Kennett Indians High School basketball program scrimmages Monday afternoon at the high school gymnasium.
Kennett is set to open the season at the two-day Riverbend Classic Shootout at New Madrid County Central.
"We open up with West Memphis on Friday and Pine Bluff, Ark., on Saturday," Kennett coach Jim Vaughan said. "Anybody that his been to the Riverbend knows the caliber of competition and the caliber of players at that tournament.
"I like the fact we are challenged right away," Vaughan continued. "We've got to hit the ground running right away and be ready to step up."
Kennett will play West Memphis at 5 p.m. on Nov. 23 and Pine Bluff, Ark., at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24 at New Madrid.
"I cannot remember what West Memphis graduated, but they were 6'10, 6'9, 6'8, last season inside," Vaughan said. "They are going to have some of that length back. I don't know how much."
Other games scheduled for Nov. 23 at the Riverbend Shootout are Charleston, Mo., vs. Covington, Tenn., at 2 p.m.; New Madrid County Central vs. Pine Bluff at 3:30 p.m. and Scott County Central vs. North Little Rock, Ark., at 6:30 p.m.
Other games scheduled for Nov. 24 are Covington vs. Scott County Central at 3:30 p.m., North Little Rock vs. Charleston at 5 p.m. and West Memphis vs. New Madrid County Central at 6:30 p.m.
The community will have the opportunity to watch the Kennett varsity boys basketball team at home before they travel to New Madrid the day after Thanksgiving.
The Kennett girls and boys high school basketball programs will participate in a Black and Gold Scrimmage at the Kennett High School Gymnasium on Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.
The coaches will introduce their players at 5 p.m. The Kennett junior varsity girls will scrimmage at 5:15 p.m., the Kennett junior varsity boys will scrimmage at 5:40 p.m., the Kennett varsity girls will scrimmage at 6:05 p.m. and the Kennett varsity boys will scrimmage at 6:30 p.m.
Admission to the event is a bottle of Gatorade.
