The court date for Kevin Morgan of Senath, Mo., has been rescheduled for 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2012.

Morgan appeared with his attorney, Shawn Young, of Portageville, Mo., in a Dunklin County courtroom on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Presiding Judge over the proceedings was Stephen R. Sharp. Appearing on behalf of the state was Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen P. Sokoloff.

Both parties were in agreement concerning rescheduling.

Morgan was first arrested and charged in November of 2011 with the theft/stealing of property or services that is valued at $500 or more but less than $25,000, a class C felony. According to Sokoloff, these charges stemmed from his misuse of money from the account of his brother, Shawn Morgan, and Shawn's wife, Tonya, as a means to pay his own bills. At the time of Shawn's arrest for allegedly murdering a three-year-old Senath, Mo., youth, Kevin was granted his power of attorney.

Concerning these charges, and according to court records dating Nov. 22 of 2011, a probable cause statement was filed and a bail/bond recommendation was made by Sokoloff in the amount of $25,000, which was filed in the court by Judge John C. Spielman.

Also on that day, a warrant was issued for Morgan's arrest. The following day, a warrant was served to Morgan by a representative from the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department with an initial arraignment scheduled for 9 a.m., Nov. 29, 2011. At the arraignment, Morgan was advised of the charges brought against him as well as his rights to representation by an attorney and of his right to remain silent because any statement could be used against him in a court of law.

In December of 2011, the courts approved a reduced ten percent cash bond which was posted by Morgan.

According to the Dunklin County Prosecutor's office, Morgan has pled not guilty to the charges against him.
