In honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all money raised by this rack will be donated to the Individual Cancer Assistance Relief Effort (ICARE) to help local individuals who are fighting the good fight.
Daily Dunklin Democrat Managing Editor George Anderson said the donation is being done to help the community.
"This program was started in 2009 by former DDD publisher, Bud Hunt, as a way to help raise money for ICARE -- a local program that helps Dunklin County residents with their battle against cancer," Anderson said. "Our hope is that everyone in the community will participate in the program, even if they already get the newspaper at home. This is one effort where you know the money will be given back to the local community."
ICARE is a program that provides direct assistance to local cancer patients with financial needs, and "fills a gap left open by other cancer support organizations," according to the program.
ICARE offers assistance with transportation expenses, nutritional supplements, and financial aid to support activities of daily living.
ICARE is sponsored by the Dunklin County Caring Council (DCCC), a group of interested individuals bound together for a common cause to serve the needs of the community, according to the DCCC. The DCCC promotes coordination and cooperation among social service providers, churches, the business community, and the education system.
